The Scientific Method

You know you’re a good teacher when all the highlights you give for a particular topic are covered by a well-respected colleague in an cutting edge field.

Here we have Dr. Thomas Peterson, ranked in the top 1% of his field, Geosciences, giving a TedTalk about the scientific method.

Dr. Peterson hits every major point I have been making for years, including that physics is an experimental science, that physics results must be repeatable, that we don’t know anything for certain, only that the consistency of experimental results dictates provisional assent to the validity of a scientific hypothesis, that the quality of an hypothesis is revealed by its relative simplicity, and that physics is subject to revision and improvement, as new data is received and reviewed.
