Heron Of Alexandria

While reading “How Jesus Became God” by Bart Ehrman, I was surprised to find out that Heron (aka Hero) of Alexandria, ca first century AD, invented the steam engine.

Apparently, no one thought the idea was interesting or feasible, so Heron’s invention went nowhere.

Heron also invented the first coin-operated vending machine, for dispensing holy water!

You can read about this most interesting man here.
