Wrangling Those Wayward WIMPs

Katherine Freese, a theoretical physicist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor recently proposed creating a dark matter detector (WIMP model) using strands of DNA.

A wind of WIMPs coming from the constellation of Cygnus would be detected when they struck thin gold sheets, dislodging the gold nuclei.  The nuclei would then slice through a series of strands of DNA hanging from the gold plates, thereby revealing the existence and velocity of the WIMPs.
